Caesars Total Rewards will change ALL tier levels in 2013

I just found out from a manager at one of the Caesars casinos about the new tier points required for Diamond and 7Stars in 2013. And the tier points needed are higher than previously reported by another website, and complicating the matter is that there were will be three different levels for Diamond players.

Let's start with Diamond which currently needs 11,000 tier points. According to the manager, starting in 2013 there will be three different levels of Diamond with the lowest level at 15,000 points, and the next highest level at 40,000 points and the highest Diamond level will need 80,000 points. The manager said there will still be just one kind of Diamond card, but offers and comps will be based on the three Diamond levels.

Curiously, Harrah's Rincon has had a system where Diamond players with more points were awarded special "Diamond" cards. But the manager told me the new system for the Caesars properties will not be like the Harrah's Rincon system. I don't know if the Harrah's Rincon system of different cards for the different level of Diamond players will continue in 2013.

For 7Stars, the current requirement is 100,000 points, but in 2013 that will increase to 150,000 according to the manager.

The manager also believes that the points required for Platinum will also increase, but he wasn't sure. He said casino personnel are now being briefed about the new tier point levels. Platinum currently requires 4,000 points.

Gold level is automatic, and does not require any tier points.

At Harrah's Rincon I was told that an official announcement will be made on the Caesars / Total Rewards website probably on January 1st.

While I've infrequently played ay CET properties the past few years and I have a lowly gold card, I'll likely be playing at least some in the next year or so at the Lake Tahoe & Reno Harrahs & Harveys. That hasn't stopped any of them from STILL handing me free rooms whenever I book on their site though. I don't expect to see Platinum anytime in the future either.

It's obvious to me why they chopped up diamond into levels. As a yearly diamond card holder in the past who each year quit playing at Harrahs properties just after hitting 10,000 RC's with a rather healthy profit annually, the amount of freebies I received were WAY out of whack with what I expected....and I took advantage of nearly every offer. For 3 years, my wife & I took 10,000 mile drives around the country, and I received comp rooms no matter where I booked--and we stayed at EVERY possible Harrahs including the one in Canada, multiple times. This was in addition to all those Coach purses, $250-$500 VISA gift cards, leather jackets (one of which I was wearing when my $2 royal was dealt) and countless cash handouts for just showing up.

I never thought they'd keep that type of thing going. Now it looks like some smart yuppie-type executive caught on, so they have no choice but to stick it to the players. Of course you Alan probably aren't affected by this because you likely play enough for way over the requirements for 7-Stars, correct?

Rob it is obvious that by raising the number of tier points needed for various "Total Rewards levels" or "tiers" that they are limiting the comps that various players get.

The 50% increase in 7 Stars required points will probably impact a lot of players who just squeak by the 100,000 point mark, just as the new point levels of 80,000 and 40,000 will reduce some of the comps that Diamond players get.

My first thought was that the new 3 tier diamond status would be used to mete out varying degree's of perks. From what I've read some diamond lounges in AC charge to get in, and in some locations, AC and otherwise their are lines to get in. So perhaps you'll see low diamonds get in for $20, mid diamonds for $10, and high diamonds are free, all of which should reduce the number of people trying to get in. The same kind of system could be used for dining line passes, depending on the popularity of the buffet.

That tier charging system would sure be welcome to higher tier diamonds at Paris LV. At my just-over-10,000 diamond status I used to hate those long lines filled with players like me, and only waited in them if I had a guest with me.

Its unfortunate that Ceasars didn't release this info prior to the end of the year. My 2012 Tier Score is 38,000. With no trips planned before the new Year, my 2013 Player classification will be Diamond although the lowest Diamond level. We shall see if I continue to get similar perks (suite, airport limo, show, dining credits, spa pass etc) on my next trip.

russkg raises an interesting point: when do the new point classifications take effect? Will they take effect in 2013 based on the points earned in 2012 or do you have to earn these new tier point amounts in 2013 for the start of the new year in 2014?

By the way, the tier score "year" ends at the end of March. So under the "old system" if you earned 100,000 tier points in 2012 you would be 7 stars through March of 2014. I don't know if that all changes too??

You're itemizing so many reasons why players should NEVER play for the points instead of just for the money. That's exactly what all AP's do, and it's exactly why so many of them have either died penniless like Skippy Hughes and the infamous cddenver, left LV humilated and broke like Paymar & Yuri the famous UNLV math professor, are still unable to find retirement like Dancer, and have ended up with unspeakable challenges like our friend arci. In fact, add me to that group back in the mid '90's as a losing failure.

I'll bet the offers will still come almost on par with last year for any diamond level players, and few if any reductions will be realized until 2014.

Let's put aside your personal campaign, Rob, and focus on the main question: will the actual changes take place in 2013 (starting April when the new tier scores begin) or in 2014? Any of you going to a total rewards casino please ask!

In the meantime, I am watching the total rewards site daily for changes in the rules: https://www.totalrewards.com/TotalRe...age=trBenefits

the main site is www.totalrewards.com or www.caesars.com

This change is a bit of a bummer since I will be on the smaller diamond side. But no matter, as long as I end up ahead for the year I don't mind what tier score I am.

While the company has the right to make changes at any time, I think the right thing to do would be to give notice for how point levels will change for 2014. I think a surprise announcement to lower level Diamonds and 7 Stars that you are no longer "Diamond" or "7 Stars" would create a lot of ill will.

Just imagine if you finish 2012 will just 11,000 points or just 100,000 and you thought you qualified for Diamond or 7Stars in April 2013 and now you're told you don't?

THAT'S the spirit! I understand what the discussion's about and why, but the bottom line should ALWAYS be only about the money--not slot club status.

And Alan, over the past several years Harrahs/CET has taken an unmitigated beating on every gaming forum imagineable for its cutbacks, Diamond/7-Stars lounges reductions, new fees, supposed bad paytables, 7-Stars annual trip belt-tightening, etc., yet TR has been one of the best overall players' programs ever and worth much more than most or all others in terms of bang-for-the-buck for those who know how to use it to the max. It's also obvious their management reads a lot of the negative comments, based on the many irate customer letters that get posted on various forums. So why SHOULDN'T CET make every effort to maximize profit margin when they get criticized either way you cut the cookie? I personally believe what they're doing is long overdue and more in-line with what former just-barely-in cheapass diamond cardholders like myself should have ever received or taken advantage of. I know I've cost them a pretty penny, and that's not counting the cash from the machines I regularly beat them out of. In fact, as I said earlier, I'm STILL doing it in the form of free rooms at will up here in the Reno/Tahoe area.

I am sure they are still going to offer free rooms. That's always been their strategy. it's the other comps and offers that they are cutting back on. And with the new tier score levels more of those 'other cuts" will be coming.

Let's get to the main point here: Will a higher tier score level for Platinum, Diamond or 7Stars make you concentrate your play at ANOTHER casino company? Or, will you just grin and bear it even if it means fewer comps?

And let's get some answers to some important questions:

    1. Will the new tier scores take effect in 2013 or 2014?
    2. What will be the differences in the three different tier levels for Diamond?
    3. Will tier scores/levels from 2012 carry over till March of 2014 as they did in the past, or is this changing also?
    4. Why aren't customers given advanced notice of the change or will customers who show up on January 1st be surprised by new requirements, tier levels, etc.?
    5. Why is it being kept such a secret that when you ask even the Total Rewards desk at local casinos (as I have) the staffers aren't even sure what the new tier score levels will be?

There's more information here at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/gamin...er-2014-a.html - apparently you have to ask the low end TR booths.

I'm pretty sure this is for points earned in calendar year 2013 for status valid until March 2015. If you just barely made platinum or diamond by December 31, 2012, then that status is valid until March 2014. Remember everyone starts off at zero on January 1. I decided not to make platinum this year, since I am over 1,000 short and don't feel like playing any more, and may try again next year at the higher level.

Thanks for posting Calwatch but based on the dates on the other forum, I had the information here two days sooner... and I got mine with a phone call and didn't have to make the trip to Vegas. And the manager called me.

As of tonight, December 26th there is still no formal announcement. Why??

This afternoon Harrah's Rincon posted this on it's Facebook page in response to my question about details for the changes:

Very soon you’ll be receiving communication via mail or email about improvements we’re making to Total Rewards in 2013. We’re introducing Tier Credit Bonuses for our updated Tier Levels and new exciting Tier Benefits! Earning starts on January 1, 2013, with new benefits available by April 1, 2013.

Well, this is an interesting spin, isn't it?

Well, I just got the mail out of my mailbox and sure enough there was a mailer from Harrah's Rincon telling me about a new twist to the Total Rewards program in 2013. It's called "Total Rewards Insider" and it appears to be something all of the casinos will be doing.

Starting in April, which I guess is to coincide with the new Tier Levels, there will be something called "Diamond Aspirations" and the more tier points you have the more bonuses and offers you get. Okay, it sounds like fancy new names for the new tier system, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be any more generous with gifts and promotions.

Meanwhile I got my offers for Caesars and the LV casinos for March and they still have me geting only $850 of free play down from the $2500 I used to get a few months ago.

However, I also got my offer for free play for January in Rincon and the weekly amount is up a little more than 50% each week. But the weekly amount will be $165. Each week starts on Thursday so by going late on a Wednesday night and timing it right I can combine the two weekly promotions for $330 of free play and I can do that twice during the month plus have one week with $165.

I was in Vegas Dec. 26th-28th and one of the craps dealers said the new tier level change will go into effect 2013. I think Alan posted the updated requirements which seem correct based on what the dealer was saying.

I received my March offers and only got free play from Ballys (300). Usually been getting free play from Flamingo for (300).

When we got home a few minutes ago, I checked the Total Rewards website to see if they might have given the new tier score information. I thought by some chance they might have programmed their website to update the info at midnight -- that's midnight Pacific Time which includes Vegas. Well, I was wrong -- there was no update. And that is wrong. One could even make the argument that it is a deceptive business practice not informing customers of the rule of a program. Though I guess they could get off the hook with their catch-all that changes can be made at any time.
